JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer LOCATION: Portland, Oregon Company Name: Competitive Edge Recruiting, LLC Maunfacturing Engineer Our high volume manufacturing client is looking to add a key member to their fast-paced team that designs and implements a broad range of automated assembly/process/inspection machines and other electro-mechanical equipment for their world wide manufacturing environments. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Oversee the production, installation, and operational verification of such equipment. * Work with mechanical and manufacturing engineers, controls and software engineers, maintenance personnel, machine shop and the manufacturing personnel to develop specifications for new equipment designs and upgrades to existing equipment. * Use best engineering machine design practices to solve complex manufacturing assembly and process functions with automated solutions. * Design and detail automated solution. * Project management to oversee the fabrication, installation, and operational verification of such equipment. * Consult and recommend alternatives to other locations world wide. * Research and implement state of the art technology as applicable to our client''s industry. SCOPE: * Interact with all plant disciplines to understand the problem. * Work in a small team environment for conceptual design. * Blend mechanical, electrical controls, pneumatics, servo actuators, motors and software into elegant automation solutions while maintaining costs, delivery schedules, manufacturability, high uptimes, maintainability, and reproducibility. * Pro E modeling of complete designs. * Giving Design presentations. * Perform computer analysis of designs. * Rapid testing and evaluation of new concepts, moving to detailed machine design (electro-mechanical). * Perform critical analysis and failure analysis of proposed designs. * Coordinate design and build with controls and software engineers. * Coordinate the machine implementation i.e. drafting, machine shops, purchasing, assembly, test and debug, installation and training. * Troubleshoot problem areas, recommend and implement high up time solutions. * Participate in production implementation. * Interact with suppliers as needed. * Participate with a team that creates and maintains a technology plan to coordinate efforts and implementations with all of our client''s locations. REQUIREMENTS: * BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline * 8 years of diverse experience in equipment design in industrial, high volume product environment * Progressive engineering experience in the automation manufacturing industry (design, controls, mechanical, etc.) * Design of Automation and Robotic Assembly equipment * Strong mechanical background * Excellent machine design skills, analytical & fact finding abilities * Hands on experience with parts feeders and orientation devices for high volume products * Excellent interpersonal skills/capable of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team * Demonstrated excellence in communication, written & verbal * Ability to mentor & develop others * Good project planning fundamentals * Excellent ability to deliver new creative ideas * Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously * Organized and detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines * Knowledge of the ANSI GD&T dimensioning standards & other established mechanical drafting practices * Extensive knowledge of machine shop practices * Strong FEA and Variation analysis background * Proficient in 3D solid modeling.
